Basin Lure and Fly Club was formed in December 2003. It is a not-for-profit organisation with any money raised being returned to the Shoalhaven area in the form of fish stocking and other general improvements to the waterways and recreational areas.

The Basin is a fabulous fishing estuary. Many fish species such as Bream, Flathead, Snapper, Tailor, Whiting, Estuary perch, Flounder, Trevally, Luderick, Salmon, Mulloway, Tarwhine and Mullet have been caught by members of Basin Lure and Fly.

The club’s main aim is to share with it’s members combined knowledge and the techniques involved in catching fish of all species using lures and fly. The club promotes catch and release to ensure that we help manage waterways so that future generations can enjoy this great sport.

The club information night is held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm at St Georges Basin Community Centre, Meriton St St Georges Basin.

Information nights are used to share and give tips on successful techniques and inform members of ‘catching hotspots’. It is also a chance for members to arrange non-boating and boating partners for the monthly competition so experience and knowledge can be shared.

A Club point score competition is held on the weekend following the club information night. This can be fished in waters such as Shoalhaven River, Jervis Bay and estuaries south to Ulladulla, with a free BBQ following to dissect the weekends fishing and share stories.

The Basin Lure and Fly club also runs a Southern Bream Series (SBS) that is held from Sydney Harbour in the north to Mallacoota in the south. The SBS has a strong following with its welcoming and social atmosphere as well as offering anglers a chance to get involved in the tournament scene, with the chance of winning cash and prizes.
