It is with great pleasure that I can finally let you all know what our committee has been trying to keep under wraps for the past few months.
The little club that could! Will be for the 2010 season (and hopefully many more to come) be running the SHIMANO SQUIDGY ROUNDS under our banner and it will be called the SQUIDGY SOUTHERN BREAM SERIES. This series will still be having a kayak section completely separate to the boaters so for those of you worried about it don’t, we ran it all last year without a hick up and it was great to see them out and about doing what we all love and that’s fishing for bream..
This for some will be a big suprise but trust me on this one, for us to move in any direction but forward for our club this had to be done or else we would have possibly stayed dead in the water and that my friends I do not want any part of nor I'm sure do you. We are by no means and I mean by no means are we going to break away from what our clubs beliefs are and seeing that all other obligations are met will take our full attention at all times.
So here are the INS and out!!
There will be nine rounds plus the grand final. Prize money will be paid down from 1st to 5th and from 5th to 10th there will be prizes. The other ins and outs will be EXACTLY the same as how our comps were run last year with the emphasis on fun and mateship so let’s please not forget it.
Yes there are rounds in the north but we had to keep the yuppies from Sydney happy as we the southern banjo playing hicks wouldn’t want car loads of their mums driving down in there Volvos abusing us for not playing fare
All jokes aside it was only fair that we held a few rounds up there as a big percentage of the field will be from there and also that it is a merge of sorts and to hopefully keep all happy this was what had to be done. But on the other hand letting them into the south will show them how good we really have it might not be the best thing either well we will just see.
The places and events have been considered for some time now a lot of thought has gone into the time of year they fish well and accommodation factors (mainly the fishing side of things).
So here it is!!
Round date venue
1 January 31st Georges River
- This was decided that this could be the first place as we have been asked to go there as it is a great location
2 February 21st Batemans Bay
- This is really the only time this place works well with warm water and racks all working great.
3 March 7th Port Hacking - we don't really have a reason
Only because we have to keep you Sydney turds happy!!!
Only joking!!
4 April -18th St Georges Basin
- this is yet another great time of year on this water way .
5 May 30th Shoalhaven River
- This is the only time of year this river will fish any good and it does fish the best in May. Otherwise there could be more donuts then your local crispy crème outlet
6 June 20th Hawkesbury River
- keeping Sydney people happy AGAIN!!
7 July 25th Lake Illawarra
- This is one tough place and a good leveller with tournaments. Not the best fishing but if you work hard you will find them
8 August 22nd Tuross
- Fish are on the chew again done there. And no school holidays.
9 September 19th Sydney Harbor
- Yet again don't ask me why!! Keeping Sydney happy again!! Should be a bumper sticker for all the country people!! They take our women and water and leave us with what??
Grand Final
October 23rd & 24th St Georges Basin/Shoalhaven
The cost!
The cost of each round will be $100.00 per team so team of two $50.00 each (that was just for us southerners sorry) there will be a $250.00 biggest bream prize but we will go into more detail later in regards to all this. The kayak section will be $50.00 a yak.
The grand final!!
The grand final will be held on St Georges Basin/the shoalhaven river over two days,as it is this year. yes we spoke of holding it in other venues but the logistics of a two day grand final was rather large and the basin is at its very best this time of year as most would know with 5kg bags being quite achievable this time of year .it is also before any other major GF so we can be out of the way of others who have been able to qualify for other series.
So, that’s it - the rules are the same as last year (except going to 25cm fork length) and hopefully the smiles and laughter will be heard echoing over all our venues in the year to come.
We will have the rules up in the coming weeks and any questions please leave them on here and they will get answered asap !
As you can see a big thing for us southerners we haven’t of the past been able to have a series of this magnitude enter our lakes and rivers but with fingers crossed we can showcase it all to the few amongst us that take part in what we all love to do and thats chase the elusive bream on lures. A big thanks to the guys from shimano for coming on board and hopefully between shimano and the basin lure and fly club we will see a series that will be talked about across the board.
Cheers Scotty
