Presidents Report

Bring on Summer I say! We are all looking forward to having a more aggressive bite both in the shallows and in the deep water. Reports and photo’s of large flathead 900mm plus being caught and released in the Basin. Other reports of fish over the metre mark being captured and not released. Oh well that is their right and we can’t take that away from them. Wes has knocked Scotty off the biggest flathead for the year with a 913mm Flatty. Jason has fought and beaten a 1040mm Jewfish in the basin. A long fight and a sore back on 3lb main line. Wal is the man to follow for bream with consistent good bream over the 1 kg mark. Big whiting are also swallowing blades and the 40cm plus fish are definitely on the chew. Blades, blades and blades seem to be the flavour of the month for a majority of the feedback. The new eco gear shrimp is also landing the big lizards. The single hooks on the rear are definitely working and on several occasions targeting and large flathead with success.

The guy’s from Shimano ran a successful competition from Greenwell Point Bowling and Sports Club. There was lots of fantastic prizes on offer and everyone that fished really enjoyed it. The kids all walked away with prizes and I have to say that even the adults seemed to have their hands full at the end of the event. The competition targeted Bream, Jewfish, Luderick, Whiting, Snapper & Kingfish. Standout angler was Wal Balzan with a bag of bream weighing in at 5.030kg. Wal also took out the biggest Whiting and Blackfish. Anglers could fish the Basin or the Shoalhaven river and as we would expect the Basin and Wal shined. Mark Crompton took out the biggest Flathead taken from the River approx 700mm weighing in at 1.98kg. If you missed this year make sure you don’t miss next year. If you have kids all the better as that is what they want to see and they ensure every kid took at least one prize. Mossy had the big Shimano tank there and all fish were there on display.

The club has acquired some pumping equipment and is currently trying to source trailers and a tank so the club can build and have their own tank for the future. We are of course trying to do this at minimal cost but are working towards getting a large portion of the material donated. This tank will be a great asset for the club for our events like the Flathead Classic.

There is a lot currently going on with organising for up and coming events. Our Flathead classic will be held on the 24 th of January 2010 Australia Day long weekend The committee is meeting currently and we will decide on the dates for the Southern Bream series and have asked anglers for feedback on the forum. This information is greatly appreciated to all of those that have replied.

The away weekend for Grady’s has been moved to the Basin. It was planned for a interclub challenge with Wollondilly Bass earlier in the year but changes in club calendars has forced us to move it back to the Basin. We will try to pursue this next year, I will talk with Brett from WBC and Southern Bass so we can start up a interclub challenge and get some small trophy’s so the winners can have a bit more than just bragging rights.

A club raffle is being sourced as we speak. We have secured almost all prizes and I would like to have it finalized in the next week so we can start selling tickets at the up and coming Fishcare Family Fishing Day.

The Fishcare Family Fishing Day will be held on Sunday 25 October 2009 at the new Greenwell Point Boat Ramp (fingers crossed it is completed). The club has been asked to help with this event and I will be helping out with registrations and the weigh in. All entries must be received by Wednesday 19 October 2009 .

I have uploaded entry forms on the BLF website. Go to http://www.basinlureandfly.org.au/images/rec_fish_oct_2009.pdf

The Southern Bream Series Grand Final will be run next month. We had 108 anglers fish qualifying rounds this year and expect numbers to grown next year again. The Grand final is over two days. Our friend Tim Olsen has offered a discount to anglers fishing at his fantastic Palm Beach Tourist Park. There is a total of 52 anglers that have qualified. Fifty Two because there was a tie for 50 th. And Thirteen Kayakers that are a new and welcome addition to the Southern Bream series this year.

Next club info night 14 October Merriton Street Community Centre at 7.30pm.

Next Club fishing outing 17 th and 18 th October BBQ Basin View at this stage (may be changed if members request another venue.)

Target Species TBA (will be posted up after info night)

Good luck, have fun and keep it safe

Secretary’s report
Hi!

Well all I can say is it’s all going forward and that is what you want to see when you’re in this position. As Jim has said in his report the up and coming year is looking good and many things are about to happen which I will get into shortly but for now I’ll just have a quick ramble about a few things.

The up and coming flathead classic is on the go as you know and I won’t go into it too much as Jim has covered it in the past report but raffle tickets will be out soon so please try to sell as many as you can as the money raised helps the club through the year with its on goings (not the bream section that is separate I will say just quietly) so please help in any way you can.

Speaking of the bream comps well in a way they have become the back bone of our club and without them I’m here to say the club would be up a certain creek without a paddle. They have got bigger and bigger and this year will be no different!!

This year will see some extra ordinary comps take hold being a lady’s day, a one lure comp day, a fancy dress day and a take a kid fishing day all well see a weekend set aside throughout the year which should be great.

Besides that everything is running along a-ok and hopefully this year will see some exciting things take place and all of our members big and small will be able to do what they love and that’s fishing what more can you ask!!

Cheers Scotty…
