About Basin Lure And Fly Anglers Inc

VIP CODE : fishing

Basin Lure and Fly club commenced in December 2003. The Club’s main aim is to teach members (old and new, experienced and inexperienced) techniques involved in catching fish using hard and soft plastics, conventional hard bodied lures and fly’s.

The 2008 Commitee

Jason Mayberry is the President and is hoping to bring a more social aspect to the club. Jason has many years experience in all varieties of fishing. Jason Has been with the club since the first meeting. Jason started fishing at the age of 8 on the Far South Coast. He first started using lures for Bream and Flathead from the age of 12, also started throwing lures at tuna and salmon from the rocks at the same age. He moved to the ACT after school and the only fish there seemed to be carp. He returned to the Shoalhaven with his family in 1998 where he once again started fishing with lures for bream and flathead. He has fished various competitions with his best results being a 3rd and a 1st in the Sussex Inlet Bream Classic.

Jim Barrie is the Vice President. Jim enjoy's all types of fishing (just look at the Gallery). Jim was converted to lure fishing since joining Basin Lure and Fly Anglers at the first meeting then going out on Dave's boat for the Sunday Morning session. First ever cast with a soft plastic landed him a chopper tailor in a snag, now he can't stop throwing lures. Nor can he get away from the chopper. RIP many good lures.

Wes Murphy is the Secretary. With high profile contacts and super typing skills. He is sure to be a welcome edition to the team.

Kylie Mayberry is the club Treasurer. Kylie is the club's trusted choice for one of the most important jobs for the club

Wal Balzan is the Weigh master. Wal brings new experiences and sharing to the club. Wal has been a integral part of the winning team in the Sussex inlet Bream Classic. Proving that he is not a pre fish princess.

Craig Johnson and Scott Sharpe are the clubs general committee members. Both members enjoy a social and a tornament fish. Scott willing to downsize from his larg game equipment to tackle bream on light gear.

The club Information Night is held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, and is held at St Georges Basin Community Centre, Meriton St starting at 7:30pm.These nights are used to teach and share methods such as knot tying, fly making, casting and retrieving. The information night's are also valuable in sharing and informing members of catching “hotspots” and “in-form” plastics, lures and fly’s. Up to date information on new lure and fly’s available in the marketplace are also discussed during these nights. It is also a chance for members to arrange non-boating and boating partners, if needed, for the following weekend’s competition so experience and knowledge can be shared. The club competition is held on the weekend following the club information night .

Ladies and Kids days are held during the warmer months which are a great success. This allows Ladies and Kids to catch fish on bait as well as lure and fly and is great to bring a family atmosphere to the club.

The club is a not-for-profit organisation with any money raised being returned to the Shoalhaven in the form of fish stocking and other general improvements to the water or recreational areas.

The Basin is a fabulous fishing estuary and many fish species such as Bream, Flathead, Tailor, Whiting, Estuary perch, Flounder, Trevally, Luderick, Salmon, Mullway, Tarwhine, Mullet and Snapper have been caught by members of Basin Lure and Fly in the past year.
